Each plant will incorporate high efficiency boiler combustion technology with a steam generator and turbine.
How do we know it works?
Combined heat and power (CHP) technology of this type is used extensively to recover the energy from waste with more than 170 operational reference sites worldwide.
Will there be emissions or nasty smells?
The plant’s high temperature combustion and the use of advanced filter systems virtually eliminates emissions. The waste transfer station is enclosed with a conveyor feed to the energy generation plant, eliminating nuisance smells in the area of the plant?
What kind of waste is processed?
The primary waste source is commercial waste residue that remains after separation of recyclable elements – most of the material that would otherwise go to landfill.
Will it increase traffic bringing waste into the area of the plant?
No. The plant is designed to utilise the existing local waste stream and is located as an integrated facility with the waste transfer station. The plant will reduce vehicle traffic because material being sent to landfill will be substantially reduced.
Is the plant an incinerator?
Yes the plant incinerates the processed waste to recover the energy using combustion technology, but comparing the clean energy recovery plant to a conventional waste incinerator is like comparing a modern multi-fuel boiler with a garden bonfire.
